Renters Insurance for Peace of Mind

As a renter, you should know that a house for rent does not automatically include protection for your personal property, so you need to understand the importance of renters insurance. For peace of mind, rental insurance covers all of your personal belongings if the house for rent or apartment building experiences a fire, theft, or vandalism. For as little as $30 per month, depending on the area of the country that you are living in, you can receive approximately $25,000 in personal property protection.

When selecting renters insurance, be sure to know the difference between the actual cash value and replacement value that is listed under the rental liability policy. Renters insurance typically states that actual cash value means that you will be reimbursed for the total of what your belongings were worth when the loss occurred, while replacement cost would be based on the cost if you were to go buy it today. While you may think you will never need rental insurance, you may not want to take the risk that anything could go wrong.
