Keep Your Boxes Upright

If you are packing a box of fragile items or simply want the box to remain upright and not get turned on it's side or upside down during the move, clearly mark with a bold arrow on all sides of the box indicating which end is up. This will prevent the person handling the box to flip or turn over box.

Tips For Relocating Your Automobile

Once you have found a company to move your automobile to your new location, you have to prepare your car for the move. The following tips will help make sure your vehicle will arrive at the destination location safely.
* Empty out all of your personal possessions and documents including those stored in the trunk of car. Many companies are not insured for damage or loss of personal goods.
* For larger RVs or mobile homes batten down the hatches and make sure everything is as secure as possible!
* Make sure you have enough antifreeze in the engine and that your battery is fixed in place.
* If your vehicle is going by transporter or trailer empty out most of your fuel. In some countries car transporters are weighed at checkpoints and they can be delayed or fined for being overweight. Losing a bit of fuel can be a real help!
* If you have customized your vehicle at all with special aerials, antennae, and spoilers, remove them or make sure they are secure for the move. You want to make your vehicle as streamlined as possible to avoid knocks and damage.
* Disable/Turn off your car alarm systems.

Shipping Expensive Artwork

If you have an expensive piece of artwork that needs to be shipped or transported to a new location, you will want to make sure this precious item ships to its new location safely. It will be in your best interest to find a mover or shipping company that understands the value of your art. Using a professional moving company or shipping company will be a little more expensive but well worth it to protect your investment. Make sure you are very clear about the value of the art and ask about insurance on your package. You will want to make sure if anything happens to the art, it is insured for the entire appraised value of the piece.

*Make sure the art is package securely in bubble wrap. If the piece has recently been painted, cleaned, or refinished you will want to make sure it is completely dry, so you will not get any imprints from the bubble wrap on your work of art.

*It is a good investment to purchase a wood crate to ship and store your artwork in. Depending on the size of the piece of art, you may need to have one custom built to ensure the art fits properly and can be packaged well to protect your piece of art.

*Make sure everyone who will be handling the artwork understands and knows the value of the art. If the movers/shippers know the contents and the value of the package, they will be more likely to careful to protect it.

Remember Time Frames

A moving truck driver can only drive up to 500 miles a day or ten hours which ever comes first. If you are moving from the east cost to the west cost, remember it will take a minimum of at least six days for delivery. On the other hand, if you are moving within a 500 mile radius, your delivery can arrive in as little as one day. Make the proper arrangements ahead of time to be available for the delivery day. It is also a good idea to allow some flexibility around that day, in case the transport arrives a little quicker or takes a little longer.

Moving Glass And Mirrors

If you are moving glass or mirrors, use thick tape and make a big "X" across mirrors and picture glass, so that if the glass should accidentally be broken during the move there will be less glass to clean up.

Removing Sticky Residue After Moving

Sometimes during the rush of packing and moving and the heat of being inside a moving truck, tape can get grimey and sticky on items. When you are unpacking, if you discover sticky residue left on your items from tape and other adhesive products, you can use mineral oil, baby oil, meths oil, eucalyptus oil, or goop remover to remover the residue.

Packing AND Moving Your Own Appliance

When you are preparing to move and relocate your appliance. It is a good idea to clean out your appliance before your pack them and let them dry out completely.

Toaster: Tip the toaster upside down to empty out all the crumbs out of the toaster.

Refrigerator and Freezer: Should be cleaned out really well before moving them. To prevent the fridge from smelling use one of these tips: wipe out the fridge with a damp cloth with vanilla essence, dry out the fridge with a hair dryer especially the corners, and/or put silica gel in the fresh department or fine blend coffee in a piece of muslin, these will soak up any extra moisture. When you have cleaned out the fridge and defrosted the frigeratorfreezer keep the doors slightly open to keep the air circulating just before you move them.

Storing Metal Objects

If you are planning on storing any metal objects in your storage or storage pod, like lawnmowers or file cabinets, it is a good idea to treat them with rust protector first, or at least wipe them down with an oily rag. You do not want to pay to store your items and end up with rusty objects when you move them out.

Rank Your Moving Quotes

When you are getting your estimates from potential movers, be sure to write down any comments you have on the mover or the moving company. As you are getting estimates from all potential movers, rank them according to qualifications and potential. It is best to do this while the moving companies are fresh in your mind.

Tips For Getting A Discounted Moving Van Rental

If you are looking to save money during your move or get a discounted moving van rental, try some of the following tips:

*Check the newspaper's For Hire section of the classifieds to locate a "man with a van" who can help move a few items with you. Many of these operations charge by the hour and will help with the lifting. Expect to do your share of the heavy labor unless you are unable, in which case you should inform the driver so he can arrange for assistance.

*If you are hiring a professional, it's a good idea to insure your belongings. Replacement of damaged belongings is bothersome, but possible with proper coverage.

*You should always be present when the moving truck is loaded. If you can't attend, make sure you arrange to have a representative there.

*You can also arrange for a professional loader to help only with the loading and/or unloading of your belongings in the event you are driving a rental truck yourself.

*Make sure you inspect all of your belongings closely and read the paperwork closely before you sign anything.
